Making
Menopause Work

Menopause is a natural, universal life transition. Symptoms are different for each person and, like any health issue, can have an impact on work.

An Opportunity to Retain Employees

Menopause-responsive workplaces retain employees, build culture and wellbeing, and benefit from a multigenerational workforce. Menopause typically occurs between age 45 and 55 years, with perimenopause starting as early as age 35. That’s when many people are at the “top of their game” across jobs and sectors, are holders of institutional wisdom, mature in decision-making, and dynamic and influential leaders.

A Costly, and Preventable, Problem for Employers

Unsupported menopause symptoms drive up employer healthcare costs and cause $1.8 billion in missed workdays, not to mention the added costs of reduced productivity and early retirement. Midlife employees represent a large and growing percentage of today’s workforce and hold key positions in management and on the front lines.

An Innovative and Effective Solution

The Menopause Society, with its 35-year track record as the leading menopause resource, is responding to this global challenge with the launch of its industry-leading Making Menopause Work™ initiative designed to guide enlightened employers on ways to better support their employees going through this significant life change and to recognize those organizations that demonstrate best practices in caring for this growing population within their workforces.

Serving as the foundation for the new Making Menopause Work™ initiative is Menopause and the Workplace: Consensus Recommendations” which were created by an expert panel of well-recognized and credible healthcare professionals, researchers, labor attorneys, and patient advocates. These recommendations led to the creation of an employee-focused MenoNote to help employees better understand their symptoms and what could be done to support them.
